@PJ Yes, I agree with you.. It should be worth a lot lot more...
PJ 20 日 前
@Thank You So Very Much Yeah, I was surprised at what a low value he put on the book, seemed like it should be worth a lot more. When they showed it up close you could see the pages were coming apart though and I just cringed at the way he kept stabbing it with his finger.

@PJ I guess, some museums would be more than interested in some of those highly historical pages that official documents cannot replicate haha. I would like to believe that whole book would be worth some hundred thousands of dollars or even a million dollars for star-struck collectors! 🤩

@PJ Yeah hahaha.. I can imagine that he is so bewildered and astonished at all the signatures of VIPs and stars etc.. He did said later that he would like to have an in depth review of all the pages in that autographs book, which is of course, very interesting and amazing!

It drove me crazy the way he kept poking it.

The six spyglasses for Nelson is no "mystery". He most likely ordered them as gifts for some of his fleet's officers. Sheesh.

He apparently didn’t remember ordering them did he? Or why write a letter back to the optometrist asking why he was sent these spy glasses?

Nelson writing about sheep in 1805 is a very big deal! That was the year that an american by the name of Jarvis - the US ambassador to Portugal - smuggled some merino sheep out of Portugal in the turmoil of war. Those were the first merino sheep brought to the US and that was the first big industry in america - the woolen mills which began after that.

Salute for the Antique Road Show. Here's to the respect that they show for the memory of the Holocaust survivors. Values do have a place, in a civilized society.

As an American I'm having a really hard time understanding what everyone is saying. It's amazing there's so much difference between American English and British English accents. Scottish and Irish English accents are even harder for me to understand. They almost sound like foreign languages to me.

@HappyDays Linguistic talent can be fostered and built up. It works especially well with pre-schoolers and primary-grade students. I picked up my second language in the 8th grade -- so there is still hope for others. I guess my passion is to UNDERSTAND and to BE UNDERSTOOD. But seriously, I discovered that having a moderate-to-deep exposure to another language or dialect can broaden my personal vocabulary as well. It NEVER HURTS to have this exposure. We Well! Thanks for the conversation!!
HappyDays ヶ月 前
@david5372 That's funny! I thought you'd be from a country in Europe. Some people have linguistic talents. Me? Nope.
david5372 ヶ月 前
@HappyDays Funny that you should ask! I have spent time in Europe, in Asia, and a wee bit of time in the Irish neighborhoods in Chicago. I am bi-lingual, and have an unconscious knack for picking up dialects. I find that the dialects of the English language are particularly delicious. I have to stop myself from writing in British English, although it's a splendid change of pace. When people read me, or hear me, some actually have to stop and think about they have heard -- it's remarkable how limiting the American Vocab really is. Where is my origin? Great Lakes midwest....
HappyDays ヶ月 前
@david5372 Oh, I forgot to ask you: where are you from? I looked on your profile and didn't see any info about this. It'd be interesting to know--especially if you live in an area where you hear lots of different accents. Maybe London?
HappyDays ヶ月 前
@david5372 Thanks for your great suggestion. I live in a small town in a High Desert Rocky Mountains state with a population of around 13,000 people which is definitely not a cosmopolitan place like NYC where accents from all over the world are heard. I'm sure there are, for example, Australians who would be unable to understand, let's say, a deep South accent. How many Mississippi or West Virginia accents have they heard? Heck...there are Americans from other areas of the U.S. who can't understand the South's local idioms and accents. The first time I ate dinner with my future mother-in-law she asked me to give her a fark. I'm from Wash. D.C. and had no idea what a "fark" was. It turned out she meant "fork." She grew up in Idaho and lived in Utah for a while. My sisters got lost in downtown Baltimore, Maryland once. One of them asked a guy for directions. He looked at her and said, "I can't understand a word you're saying." He was Black and my sisters are White and D.C. and Baltimore are only 40 miles apart!

She didn’t tell him to be quiet, she snapped at him and told him to shut up. Did you also like the other woman who disrespected her husband on camera over an expensive engagement ring?
